The Paris Opera and Devialet have announced a partnership and licence agreement that will see the two organisations work together for the next ten years. Initiated in 2015, the project is built upon a shared vision of excellence and strong ties to France’s musical and historical heritage.
The three main focuses of the project will be a Devialet sound discovery area within the Palais Garnier, a co-branded product line, and an Opera “hors les murs” (outside the walls) project, offering a new way to listen to and experience opera.
Jean-Philippe Thiellay, Deputy General Director of the Paris Opera said;
“The search for new forms of outreach and development is an integral part of our mission. Devialet is a magnificent partner for us, with a uniquely French take on innovation and excellence that is completely in line with the Opera’s own vision. The Paris Opera will celebrate its 350th anniversary in 2019, and is constantly seeking new ways to reinvent itself as an institution.”
Sound discovery area
The Devialet sound discovery area will be located in the Palais Garnier, in the West part of the Grand Vestibule, which will be completely restored for the project. The Devialet area has been carefully designed to be in keeping with the space: “We imagined a minimal setting with sophisticated details, created in harmony with the identity of the Palais Garnier. A space designed to deliver strong emotions with a unique sound experience, playing on the exceptional acoustics of the historical building,” explains Emmanuel Nardin, Devialet co-founder and designer. From the very beginning, the design of this space has been overseen by the chief architect of France’s historic monuments and the regional directorate of cultural affairs.
A line of “Opéra National de Paris | Devialet” products will be displayed and sold exclusively within the sound discovery area.
Opera “hors les murs”
Lastly, this partnership will offer access to recordings from the Paris Opera, including live transmissions of operas from the 2017/18 season.
The Paris Opera and Devialet will offer access to streamed show recordings. Specifically, opera fans will have the chance to listen to performances live from their own home, wherever they are in the world. Thanks to its technologies and the quality of its sound broadcasting, Devialet will be able to amplify the Opéra’s voice, expanding the community of people who can simultaneously share the magic created by the artists of the Paris Opera.
