Sonya Yoncheva reprises her widely praised interpretation of the heroine Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata beginning February 24, with Michael Fabiano in his Met role debut as her lover, Alfredo, and Thomas Hampson in one of his most acclaimed Met roles as Alfredo’s protective father, Giorgio Germont.
San Francisco Opera Music Director Nicola Luisotti will conduct all performances of the opera at the Met this season.
The March 11 matinee performance will be transmitted worldwide as part of the 11th season of the Met’s Live in HD series, which now reaches more than 2,000 movie theaters in 71 countries around the world.
Beginning March 22, Italian soprano Carmen Giannattasio will return to the Met to make her company role debut as Violetta, opposite Fabiano and Hampson.
Later performances of the opera will feature Brazilian tenor Atalla Ayan in his Met debut as Alfredo and Romanian baritone George Petean as Germont.
On April 8, 11, and 15, Plácido Domingo will return to the role of the elder Germont, which he debuted to acclaim at the Met in 2013.
